‘Told Through Food’ is an exploration into intangible cultural heritage through collected recipes and food. The collection communicates the cultural roots and influences that contribute to my personal heritage and identity. For example, recipes such as Sticky Toffee Pudding and Cumberland Sausage reflect the local environment where I grew up (Cumbria); whilst others reflect my ancestors’ homelands and history. In this context, food is acting as a way of accessing and interacting with cultural heritage and history. It opened up further ideas about shared heritages — What are the crossovers? Where are the differences? What is borrowed?
